****please note: UPDATED Oct.1......RALLY LOCATION & TIMES****

Major Louis Fulda Guillermin, of West Goshen, PA was lost in action April 30, 1968, over Laos, while acting as a navigator on an A26A aircraft during the Vietnam War.  Major Guillermin was declared Missing in Action in 1973, however his aircraft was located years later, and his remains were sent to JPAC on August 2, 2006, and positively identified on May 28, 2013 using DNA.  Major Guillermin was assigned to the 609TH Air Commando Sqdn, 56TH Air Commando Wing, 7th AirForce. Major Guillermin was 25 yrs of age when the loss occurred, and he was promoted to Major while in MIA status.

Major Louis Guillermin and the pilot, Lt. Col. Robert Pietsch, were flying over Laos when their aircraft was downed in Savannakhet Province , Laos. The crew’s last known location was about 10 miles east of the city of Ban Muong Sen. Lt. Col. Pietsch continues his status of MIA.
The A26A was a re-designated B-26 following World War II and then given its original classification as an attack plane. After some redesigning for counterinsurgency warfare and changes in armament the craft was rechristened an A-26A. The aircraft could remain on station for a long time, patiently searching out and attacking an enemy concealed by jungle in the night or bad weather.

Major Louis F. Guillermin’s name was adopted in his honor by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Major Louis F. Guillermin Memorial Chapter 436, Chester County, Pa. he was the only child of the late Wister and Myrtle Booker Guillermin.  A funeral with full military honors is planned for October 5, 2013.  Major Guillermin was a graduate West Chester Joint Senior High School in 1960.  The school was renamed Henderson High School in 1963. Upon graduation Louis started college and attended Penn State University, earning an Associates Degree in Engineering, and a Bachelors Degree at West Chester University, PA. before joining the US Air Force in 1964 .

A funeral service is planned for Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Edward L. Collins Funeral Home, 86 Pine Street , Oxford , Pa. 19363-1449, from 9:00AM until 10:00AM.  Following the service Major Guillermin will be buried next to his parents at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 2321 West Chester Pike, Broomall Pa 19008-2519.

An only child, Louis F. Guillermin was born on January 6, 1943 to Mr. and Mrs. Wister P. Guillermin who lived on Howard Road in West Goshen, Pa

While at West Chester Joint Senior High School , Louis participated in the school’s marching band from 10th to 12th grade and was a member of the Golf team from 11th to 12th grade.  The 1960 High School yearbook says of Louis: “Lou”…plays a terrific trumpet…drives a cool red ’49 Chevy…interested in electronics…enjoys hunting and fishing…”Oh, no!
After graduation from high school and college, Louis joined the US Air Force as an Aviation Cadet. He received his pilots training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio , Texas . Louis received further training in radar and celestial navigation instruction at Connally Air Force Base in Texas . He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and awarded his silver wings in April 1964.

His A-26 aircraft was located years earlier and the crash site required removal of weapons and armament.  The remains of Major Guillermin were found at the crash site along with his dog tags.  His remains were verified with DNA at JPAC (Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command) at Hickam AFB Honolulu.

Louis’ remains will be flown from Honolulu to the Philadelphia Airport, arriving on Friday, October 4, 2013.  At the airport there will be a dignified transfer from the US Air Force to the funeral director, Edward L.
