I'd not heard from Jake for a bit and he'd not posted. I sent a holiday email; just went into my email and found the following:
"So sorry to be sending such bad news at this time but my beautiful beautiful man lost his fight for life on 5th December. Thankyou for your friendship to him. Vickie"
Jake is no longer in pain and is sitting with Papa Joe and Bluesman Al, two men with/for whom he shared prayers and uplifting, respectful, and appreciative thoughts. Rambone, I hope you know how much he appreciated your friendship and humor. To his Georgia girls, your friendships also meant a lot to him. He enjoyed/respected everyone he "met" and I believe WW gave him a bit more purpose. |

I found a couple of old posts from Jake and his picture: Hi family, well tonite is my buck night, alas i am on my own, Sitting with a bottle of Ledaig Single Malt, nice mellow Malt Whiskey, 10 days left of being a single guy, then married life awaits me, any tips brothers out there to make it go easy and smooth. I had planned to spend this time with some mates who were on leave, but they were recalled to camp, so i am on my own, ah well thats how the cookie crumbles. Hope that you will join me in a drink to remember all those that have fallen, those that have paid the ultimate scarifice for our enduring freedom, and the song i will play when i drink the drink will be Brothers in Arms, by Dire Straits. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1lg9s_dire-straits-brothers-in-arms-origi_musicThis music means a hell of a lot to the Royal Marines, and i wanted to share it for all Brothers and sisters who have fallen for each other in combat. Well will let you all go and get whatever beverage that you want to drink down , time is now 00:03 GMT, one hour time i will drink my drink to our fallen, hope you will all join me. Really sad to hear this news. I have no doubt PaPa Joe and Bluesman were right there to greet him-Jake really stood by them, even across the ocean, as they all battled cancer. His friendship to them and us really meant a lot. He was such a great guy, funny...and strong. Some of his emails used to have me on the floor at work. I hadn't talked to him in a bit and was just thinking I needed to send him a quick note.
Patrick and I send our condolences to his family. He fought a long battle very bravely and I will always be grateful to him for the love and support he gave us. Thank you Jake for your service and your friendship. |

Oh my, this is such sadding news. My heart is heavy to know of his passing. He is at peace and has been welcomed to Region 7 where he will stand to welcome us when it is our turn to pass over. Jake, we look forward to meeting you when our time to cross over comes. |

Thanks Matter for your help and retro posts. Jake was a good guy, but most importantly, a soldier for freedom. |
