It is with great sadness that I post this mission. One of our own, Debbi Behnke ( aka proud parent), passed away last night from a massive heart attack.

Funeral for Debbi Sue Beyer Behnke (Dubiquilts, proud parent)

Stage: 1:00PM
Staging Location:  Barnaby's Family Inn
933 W Rand Rd (between Beverly Ln & Dorothy Rd)
                          Arlington Heights, IL 60004

At 1:30 we will be ride the short distance to Shalom Memorial Park.
No one should arrive at Shalom Memorial Park prior to 1:30 as there is another funeral.

Flag line in place by 2:00 P.M.

Shalom Memorial Park
Arlington Heights, Il. 60004-9607

Funeral 2:30PM

Interment to follow immediately after brief chapel and then graveside service.

Interment:  Shalom Memorial Park

Online Obituary: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dailyherald/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=144180029

Family will arrive at 1:30 guests around 2.

In a traditional Jewish funeral there is no wake, no visitation, and casket is closed.
There will be no public viewing.
Chapel service to be led by Rabbi Phyllis Somner should take 20-30 minutes.

Due to Deb's extreme medical and final expenses a memorial trust fund is being set up.

I recall writing the phrase 'the ever present Mark & Deb' when emailing for Billy's Welcome Home mission (her son) just a couple of weeks ago.  Now she will carry on the mission in region 7 with JonD and never miss another mission.  I have an image burned in my memory of Deb EMBRACING one of our warriors.  As she let go, I saw the look of genuine, honest compassion as a bittersweet smile flashed.

I will never forget her, and that will be my image of her.

Our hearts are breaking to learn of Debbi's passing.

Deb, I wish I would have told you how much we, Oopsie and I loved and admired you. Sometimes you think is is being displayed in that extra big hug when we'd see one another. I hope it was felt.

I know you are with JonD now watching over and guiding us to continue doing the right thing for our heroes.

Mark and Billy our thoughts and prayers are with you and family. If there is anything we can do for you, please let us know. We love all, always did and always will.

Mark and Family, what in this world can I say? What can we do at a time like this? My prayers and all  of my thoughts are with you.

Hold on to what is good,
Even if it's a handful of earth.
Hold on to what you believe,
Even if it's a tree that stands by itself.
Hold on to what you must do,
Even if it's a long way from here.
Hold on to your life,
Even if it's easier to let go.
Hold on to my hand,
Even if someday I'll be gone away from you.

I'm sorry I did not know Debbi better.  I am still sad at this news.  Please accept this hug and my condolences.

Debbi,  I wrote this poem for our soldiers that we send off.  I've revised it a bit for you.

I wrap you in my arms
in a “See you soon" embrace.
I simply say “Thank You”
as tears roll down my face.
The sacrifices that you’ve made
for our soldiers far from home,
Can never be repaid
not in full or even some.

God bless you, Debbi.  Rest in peace.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.  I have phone messages from some of you.  Please don't feel slighted, I simply can't get myself together enough to talk.  The pain is incredibly intolerable.  Plans will be finalized tomorrow.  Tentatively we are looking at Tuesday mid-afternoon.  This will be a traditional Jewish funeral.  Funeral home is 100 yards from her resting place.  All events will occur at one place and time.  She will be so proud to have WWR send her on her way to Region 7.  Meantime, she is riding her dream bike in heavan with her mother riding fluff.  I am leaving to go be with our sons.  My humble thanks again.

As we send our loved ones to war we know deep in our hearts they may be asked to give the ultimate sacrifice and we prepare. Losing a loved one at home is unexpected and always a heart breaker. Our kind words of support to the family will be heard but not fully understood during this time of morning.
Pray for their great loss and their sorrow and give them time to grieve.
But most of all Pray for the days to come, for their strength to carry on with fond memories of Debbi
and the understanding  that it was her time…  and the Lord called her home.
Rest In Peace.

We have lost too many from our WWR (and our extended PGR) families.  We will all feel this pain for a long time.  Mark, rest assured that Debbi's WWR family will gather to escort her to her final rest.  She will be in good hands.

To Mark, Billy and the rest of the family. It has taken me a couple days to come up with the simple words that just do not want to come out. I guess like you it is a bit of denial as we just hugged last Wednesday. I am very sorry for your sudden loss. I lost my mom the same way and maybe this news brought back some of that pain for me. Rest assured that you and Deb have made a posistive influence on others lives, including mine, and Deb will be missed by all. She is in a better place. Mark I hope that you will be able to find your way to continue with the missions, God knows as hard as that will be for you. I am sure she will be right behind you or riding next to you in that bright yelow jacket. God's love to you all.
Dave

Before they learned to fight for "our" freedom, she taught them how to love their neighbors;
Before they picked up a rifle; she made them pick up their rooms:
Before they stood against an enemy, she had them stand up straight and tall;
Before they felt fear, they felt her absolute love;
Before they were our warriors, they were her children.

They are "OUR" heroes now but they were "HER" sons and daughters first and every soldier, sailor, airmen, and marine was trained by a mother long before beginning boot camp.

In honor of Debbi - and every military mother -  thank you for your service.

Please accept my sincere condolences to the Behnke family and to Mark. Debbie will missed by everyone.  Debbie went out of her way to great new members and ttried to talk to everyone.  She was so proud to ride up with her man, Mark, climb off the bike and get out of the cumbersome jacket he made her wear for her own safety.  When she looked at you you knew you had her full attention.  Her faithfullness to ride, her smile to greet, and that warm look in her eye will sure be missed.  Standing By.

As the sun came up over the Adirondacks and burst through the clouds, my morning ritual of giving thanks was concentrated on Deb and ALL her family.   It is strange to mourn apart from you all, yet comforting to know that you all are there together for each other.

Thank you for being there..

I will miss the conversations I have had with Debbie as we met for welcomes and other missions - she was an interesting gal.

So sorry for your loss, and ours.

So sorry we were not in the area today for the Debbie mission.

Merril & Wayne T

Dear American Hero,

You've bravely and proudly carried the burden of defending this country.  And for that there are no words to express our gratitude.  Because of you, this country remains the greatest nation on Earth

May God bless you, and may God bless America

To Mark and to Debbie's family:

I am so very sorry to hear of this loss. I would never pretend to know how you feel, but I do understand loss. I take note of the outpouring of shared sorrow in this thread. Remember that there can only be sorrow where there was love. Had there been no love, there would be no sorrow. I never met Debbi, and I regret that now I never could.

For what it's worth, I thank you for sharing Debbi with us for the past many months. I am thankful for that part of her life that was spent doing WWR work - possibly the most important work that many of us will ever do. Her contributions to the honor and pride we have for our troops will always be remembered by me with gratitude. How many people live much longer lives and never do anything really "important?" That question will never be asked of Debbie because her work was witnessed and shared by all here. In that sense, her life was lived heroically.

To the Illinois/Wisconsin WWRiders:

Yet another blow to strikes your ranks. When President John Kennedy said "Ich bin ein Berliner" (I am a citizen of Berlin) to a German crowd just after the Berlin Wall had been constructed, he meant that he stood there in solidarity and brotherhood with the free Germans in their time of trial, even as the dark shadow of the Iron Curtain descended across the continent. Now I say to you that tonight we are all members of the WWR of Illinois in spirit - the spirit of unity that comes from shared sadness and loss.

I often revisit these forums.  It's as if I can still hear those who are here...  I wanted to write some words of comfort.  I don't think there are any, really.

But, when I composed the statewide email I sent while in a hotel room 800 miles away, crying, I really could not get the movie loop out of my head.  It is still there..

Here is that email, in part.  I've seen, given and been given some "Deb style" embraces lately.

All,

"Cherish your time with your loved ones, life is too short."   Oft cited words of wisdom by our friend Mark to me.

I simply cannot get this small video loop out of my head.

It is of Deb embracing and then pausing to look fondly at the warrior we had just welcomed home.  She then flashed a bittersweet smile as she reluctantly let him go.  With a lingering caress of his arm, she turns and walks away.

- repeat -

The look on her face was one I have seen before when she spoke of her sons.  Genuine compassion and love.  I've also seen that look on every mission.  When looking at the warrior, it was as if she were looking at her sons.

Now it is our turn to express our genuine compassion for a loved one.  And then, to turn and let her go.  Because she can no longer be here to physically embrace each of us, we must embrace each other.  But let's all do it like she did it.  Find and embrace Mark, Jacob, Billy and all her family and loved ones and return some of that love she has given.  On the next mission, embrace that warrior just a little longer in memory of how Deb did it.  Cherish your time with loved ones..

Mark,
Deb's not riding alone.  She's riding behind Big Jon.  Until I see them again, she can keep my seat warm.

You are not alone either.  We are all here for you.  Hang in there.  Treasure the memories and hold your love ones a little tighter.

Hey Deb,I stumbled across an old picture of you.  Stab of pain followed by a smile..   I did not remember you having that short of hair.  That video loop is still playing in my head of you embracing that soldier.  Usually happens every morning around sunup..

Just wanted to let you know I was thinking of ya..   But you probably knew that already.  Didn't ya?

Deb, I know you are with JonD and when I think about that it makes me smile. If anyone can give it back to him, you are the one to "gotcha!"
You both are missed so much by all, but we also can feel you both with us on every mission. I see your smile and the greatest attitude I think I have ever seen in a person.
JonD, that "twinkle" in his eyes especially when he was about to "gotcha!" someone, and when our Hero arrived.
You both will always be in my heart and for that I am blessed.

Til we all meet again... Love ya and miss ya!

I know that look. It's the one just before she would break into that "wonderful smile" when she saw you. Then the hugs and chit chat. Oh yes, we do miss you Deb but thankful the dear Lord let us have you for the time He did. You will always be with us and in our hearts.

(Thanks for the pic, Keith

I was reminded today of where I was exacly 3 months ago.  It was while at a happy occasion today.  This time I was surrounded by family.  Not the variety of family of blood, but the family of smiles and tears, of hugs and handshakes.  Well, there were at least 3 warriors today who got a little extended hug, as Deb would do.  I somehow think they know via that hug, without words, how much we acknowledge, appreciate, understand the service, sacrifice and loss that our fighting men and women experience.

The video loop was playing in my head the whole time..

Miss ya girl..

Hi Sweetie,
Over the last few days I have been wondering if your exit to heaven felt more like six years or six seconds. I still can't decide.  It feels like both at the same time.  I do know  my love for you has not waned one iota.  I miss you so bad it makes me sick to my stomach.  Our friends gave you a fantastic tribute and send-off.  They have been wonderful trying to help and reach out to me.  They have done everything possible, but Baby, this is much harder than we ever imagined.  I'm sure by now, you are an indispensable aide to JonD.  Give him one of your special hugs from all of us stuck down here.  Have you convinced him yet it is always better to do things your way?  He's probably a faster learner than me.  I can't wait to see you and hold you again.  In the meantime, help JonD with the greatest homecoming of all.  Unfortunately, we have sent several to join you in Region 7.  Ride that new red bike with your Mom riding fluff frequently.  Our 5  adult children are fine.  They speak of you often and the positive influence you had on their lives.  They are proud to have had you for their Mom.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your life.  You made me so very happy.  I am eternally grateful.

Deb, it's hard to believe that it's going to be a year already.  You would be so proud of Mark and the kids.  It's always great to see them out at the missions as you would want them to be.  Honoring our heroes.  You may be gone but definately are not forgotten.  Rest in peace and ride free until we see each other again.

Hi Sweetie,
Was a very long ride to do an Honor Mission Today on our new Voyager.  We sent a Marine to join you, JonD, and Mike in Region 7.  He's in the same place as Joey.  A memorable place for sure.  I recalled our sorrow over Joey's loss and our race to the hospital immediately after his service.  I remembered how sick you were that day, and how you toughed it out.  That was one of many hard days, today was too.  I told Joey he should come find you, flash his smile, and collect one of your hugs.  Dead dog tired, and very, very sad.
Can't wait to hold you again,
LCN

Well Sweetie, it looks like you've been busy up there.  I hope by now you have greeted Ron and gave him his hug.  In a few hours, the two year anniversary of my nightmare will be realized.  We both know how ugly it was, but you completed your transfer to Region 7.  Save me a seat.  I miss you so bad it's a deep pain in what is left of my heart.  You remain my first and last concious thought every single day.  LCN for all eternity.   Good night, sweet dreams, I love you!

STILL THINKING OF YA

There are times when we see a certain setting of the sun or see a certain place and it reminds me of missions we were one together. Today was one of those mornings and I knew I had to stop by and say "Hi and we miss ya." You must be keeping those boys in line girl, cuz I haven't heard much rumblin' lately.

Miss ya...

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you: 1. Jesus Christ. 2. The American G.I. One died for your soul, the other for your Freedom.
