It is with immense grief and sadness for me to announce the passing of our ASC and dear friend Joe “Papa Joe” Blasingame today at 12:05AM.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carol, son Christopher, and daughter Heather, as well as his many other family members and close friends.

Words fail me to explain how much Papa Joe will be missed. His commitment to our heroes was without exception, heartfelt and a selfless example for all of us to follow.

Mission details will follow.

Our loss is heaven’s gain…………….

There is not enough room here to list all my blessings so I will just say I work hard and play hard.  Life has been very good to me and I have many people I would like to call friend.  I would like nothing better than to be able to walk up to you as a friend with a smile and say great to see you.

Are angels real? We may never know. But we all have to wonder if God's creatures, so full of grace and truth, really watch over us. Do they have feelings? Do they cry? Do they love? Do they get angry? All these things are mysteries to us. But we must believe. For angels are what gives us hope in times of despair.
WE WILL MISS YOU PAPA JOE..

Papa Joe was our  GA Asst. State Coodinator of the Warriors Watch Riders.  He was a staunch supporter of our military, and participated in numerous memorial missions, send off's and welcome home missions for our servicemen and women.

Papa Joe was especially supportive of the Georgia National Guard 121st Bravo Company, based in Covington, during their recent year long deployment to Afghanistan.  Joe quietly and selflessly took on the role of patriarch of the "Black Sheep", assisting many of the families while their husbands and fathers were away at war, providing needed repairs to the Bravo Co. armory facility itself, providing a full Thanksgiving dinner last November for the ENTIRE company in Afghanistan, and doing whatever else was needed to provide help on the home front for this unit and their families.  For his service and commitment, the state of Georgia and the Georgia National Guard presented Papa Joe with the Georgia Commendation Medal in May of this year, the third highest award that can be bestowed on a Georgia serviceman, and rarely awarded to a civilian.

A memorial service is being planned for Papa Joe by his family, the officers and members of 121st Bravo Co., and the Warriors Watch Riders, the details of which will be posted as soon as they are known.  It is expected that Joe's services will be held at the National Guard Bravo Co. Armory in Covington GA.  While Papa Joe was a retired police officer and firefighter, he was not a veteran of the military, and as such his family requests no flag line at his service. But there will be a flagged motorcycle escort for the Blasingame family on the day of the service, and everyone who would like to attend and participate is welcome.  There will be full LEO support.  (The family has requested American Flags only, no branch of service or organization flags.)

Please Stand by......We want to make Papa Joe's final ride a memorable one in his honor and for his family.."Make It Big" as he would say....;(

Donations in memory of Joe Blasingame can be made to Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation, Inc., C/O Joe Blasingame, Suite203-C, 5019 GA Highway 42, Ellenwood, GA 30294-3438

The family requests donations in lieu of flowers

Thank the good Lord for tissues in your new life's journey.   You are free of aches and pain now Papa Joe . . . you entered through the gates of Heaven where there were many to "Meet and Greet".  Warriors who we have laid to rest, my Dad (Guy Morris Fields), Pops, Deltoid, JonD, family and friends who were there to hold your hand just as you have for others.  I'm sure it was one BIG Party (Make It BIG).   Heaven is a richer place with your presence!  No worries here  . . . for if Pearl or the children need anything . . . we are here for them.  We will never forget all that you have given of yourself to our  Police, Fire Departments and the Military . . . not to mention all the support you have shown to the United States of America every time you saluted the FLAG and sang "The Pledge of Allegiance".  You made a difference one person at a time.   You touched many with your kind thoughts, kind words and actions and I know you are being rewarded "Ten Fold" where you reside now.  You touched my life and left memories that I will treasure forever!!!  Thank You for being YOU and being a part of my life.  Though it's hard to smile now . . . we will toast many drinks in your honor and laugh and smile when telling stories of you.  Watch over us always Papa Joe . . . for we will feel you near.  Soar the open skies and ride . . .  Ride Free Angel

To Pearl and family,
My hearts heavy for each of you.  May God wrap his loving arms around each of you to comfort and guide you. May you know how much you meant to Papa Joe and that he loved HIS FAMILY more than anything.  I was so proud of him being vocal about!  What a wonderful man he is and will continue to be through out his journey in the new life.  You will reunite with him another day.  Be at peace knowing his health is restored and he is amongst the Angels of Heaven where he will continue his work.  I love you and am here for all of you.

Love and Sympathy,

Papa Joe was so very supportive and offered brotherly advice to me about our WWR missions and our heroes.  He always had a kind word.  God Welcomed Joe into His Kingdom of Heaven this morning.  I sure will miss him, and I know that he is already thanking all those heroes  who preceeded him.
Joe you are a class act and an example to all of us.  It is an honor to have known you.  My life is better for that.  To Carol and all of Joe's family, my deepest heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out for you all.

God Bless you Papa Joe.  Rest in Peace fits but I know you are not sitting still until you thank all Heaven's heroes for their service and sacrifice.  Please know that your family is not alone.  We are here for them.

I found this poem by David Harkins that really speaks to what Joe would like for all of us to do in his absence.  I feel like it's something that he would want said to all of us.

You can shed tears that he is gone,
Or you can smile because he lived,
You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared,
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on,
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back,
Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes,
love and go on.

Good night Papa Joe.  Our prayers tonight are for Pearl and your family, that they are finding peace and rest in knowing that you are in a perfect place now.

When LJ sent word of Papa Joe's passing yesterday, my first thought was that he is now at peace.  My second thought was that now, those who loved and cared for our friend will mourn and we need to be there for them, just as Papa Joe was there for so many servicemembers and ride partners.
Remember not to just mourn his passing, but to also celebrate his life.
May the road rise to meet you.......

I met Joe many years ago when I was a young firefighter and EMT working with him at Conyers FD. One of the first critical EMS calls I went on was to a man in cardiac arrest. Joe worked for the EMS service and was on the ambulance that responded. He and the other veterans knew there was no hope reviving the person but I, young and full of thoughts to save the world, only knew I had to keep trying. After it was all over, Joe took the time to talk to me about the whole experience and help me understand we can't save the world but we do our part to help those we can and make it better . That is the Joe I remember, Always taking time to help someone when he could, always caring. I know I am a better person for knowing Joe. When Joe contacted me about joining WWR I knew it must be something special, otherwise he wouldnt have anything to do with it. I am glad to have known him and will always remember him.
May God Bless Carol and their family and comfort you knowing Joe isnt in pain any longer and that he is in Heaven looking down smiling. He will always be with you whever you are.

Miss you Buddy!

I truly feel that I served in the United States Military to protect your freedom of speech.  I also feel this gives me the right to smack you square in the mouth for saying something stupid!

I know someone has got to have the un-edited picture of Papa Joe with his arm around nobody that was used for photo shop purposes.  If you can find it can you post it?

I know you were smiling down on us last weekend-it was nice spending time with Pearl and talking about you. We sat for a bit and looked at pictures of you guys when you went up north. You are never far from our hearts. Miss you....
