I'm sure that most of Georgia know that Papa Joe's hobby is building and playing "cigar box guitars", but it may be news to some.

He and I emailed back and forth about it, and I just felt the need to post one of his emails, with a link to a national site on the hobby/art/craft!

It's just another side of a wonderful man, and as a guitar player and former music teacher who often had my kids design and build their own instruments in an attempt to better understand how their "real' instruments were designed and constructed, a side I connected with. This is from February.

Al,

How close are you to York? Shane's planning a big event there in August.

Check 'em out... http://www.cigarboxnation.com/

I'm having fun with it, kinda cool playing something you built from junk, and it sound pretty cool when amped too.

Realize I'm just an old guy trying to learn something new, so anything is fun to me!

Take care,

Papa Joe

That's pretty cool Al.  I had the chance to hold and play PJ's cigar box guitar, and he did such an awesome job building it.  The detail work on it is amazing.  That will be a family heirloom for them for decades to come.
