IT'S A VERY SAD DAY FOR US ALL, AND FOR OUR FRIEND AND LEADER'S FAMILY. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY ALL OF US, AND AT THE SAME TIME, WE ALL THANK HIM FOR HIS EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF OUR OTHER HEROS, THE SOLDIERS WE ALL HONOR. I HAVE HALF A MIND TO GET ON A PLANE AND FLY HOME FROM VACATION IN FLORIDA.
RIP JOND, AND, AS THE LITTLE LADY ONCE SAID, "IT'S THE RIDE, DAMMIT", AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO RIDE WITH OUR FRIEND.

I never thought the day would come where I would be posting a mission for one of our own members, especially for Jon D.  It is with great sadness that I post this mission.
-----
At the first Illinois WWR mission, JonD told the assembled riders that anyone who wanted to RC a mission could do so.

While Coastie will coordinate some things for this mission, in JonD's memory -every single member of the WWR is appointed Ride Captain of this mission.

Lisa Moran

(Sorry Denise, I used your main post to put this up so it looks like you did it)

I am honored.

See you Sunday.

Deep sorrow in the WWR family today.  To the Dreymann family, May our Lord rest his healing hands upon you during your time of need.

JonD, you will be missed brother but we will continue to carry your torch.  Take care of all of our Warrior Hero's because we know that you are with them now in our Father's special house for hero's.

To the family and friends of Jon D:

Like everyone I was stunned by the news. Even now it seems surreal.

We have read many heartfelt, wrenching expressions of grief from Jon’s friends in Illinois and Wisconsin. Having never experienced the honor of riding with Jon, I wish to address this from my own point of view – that of the founding of the Warriors’ Watch Riders:

I had always assumed, ignorantly, that one day I would ride with Jon. It was always my intention to go out there one day and rub elbows with the Warrior’s Watch members in the Chicago region, and like so many assumptions that we foolish humans make, it will now forever remain in the category of “good intentions.”

For anyone who may read this who is not familiar with the Warriors’ Watch, let me tell you that it isn’t just some club or activity, rather participation in it is a concrete way of expressing deep and abiding patriotism, love of country, and love of our troops. Jon became one of the key leaders in the development of the WWR from early on, and it was as if it were always intended to be.  The Warriors’ Watch isn’t something that you JOIN, or that you ARE so much as it is something that you DO. It's a selfless act of volunteerism that, in the long run, makes this nation a better place for all who live here, or who yearn to live here.

Jon “did” it as well as any and better than most. I am going to speak plainly here – and what I am about to say may offend some, but I won't let that possibility stop me from uttering Truth: Jon was very, very much like ME, and like Tony (T), and like about 100 others who I know personally, in that something that we did honorably, our participation in the PGR, was, we felt, wrenched away from us by cruelly dis-honorable people who put ego and self above mission. Something that gave us deep personal satisfaction, the PGR, was destroyed in front of our eyes by a few despicable people.

The Warriors’ Watch only exists because of that. I could not abide having this means of honoring our troops stripped away from me, so I set out to do the RIGHT thing under a different flag.

Jon joined me in this sacrilege so quickly, that I can only assume that had he thought of it first, he might very well have been the founder of the WWR or something similar. Jon was INSTRUMENTAL in the formation, growth and shaping of the WWR from almost the beginning. I think the WWR was, what – maybe 3 months old at most? When Jon came on board, and brought half of Illinois and Wisconsin with him.

The very fact that so many people followed Jon from the PGR to the WWR tells me (and I recognized it then) that he was a beloved leader. Leadership is not easy. Effective leadership – leadership that gets the job done while at the same time gaining the respect of those who “follow,” is EARNED, not awarded or in any way assumed. A leader who says “follow me” had damned well better be prepared to DEMONSTRATE that he is WORTHY to be followed – to demonstrate his own loyalty to and respect for his followers - if he hopes to lead. Jon did that, and it is a testament to his nobility, his courage, his character and indeed his humanity that he did it so well.

My last conversation with Jon, a few days ago, was when I contacted him to assure him that his very carefully expressed concern, “Evil eyes are watching,” was carefully noted and taken very seriously by me. I wanted to assure Jon, privately, that I was in full agreement with him. HE WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THIS BRAND NEW GROUP THAT HE LOVED, THE WWR. He loved the WWR, and he worried about anything that might threaten it, or even just do damage to the reputation of the WWR.

To the family of Jon: I don’t know you but I am close to you nonetheless, because Jon was important to me. He was a “key player” in a venture that made this country a better place, that put smiles on the faces and warm memories in the hearts of countless deserving young men and women and THEIR families. Jon is missed by many because he touched many.

There is a lot of pain being expressed here in these forums today. But always remember that there can ONLY be pain where there was love. If there had not been love, there would be no pain, and for that reason we welcome the pain and embrace it as the cost, paid willingly, of our love.

God bless Jon’s family and friends. May he rest well now, and may you all take comfort in knowing that his life was lived heroically.

- Wayne

What a SHOCK!  Jon  was a big man with a soft handshake.  He always knew a person when they came up to shake his hand.
He was always smiling and joking around.  My last memory of Jon was helping him hang the Pebbles doll on the back of a bike.
He got such a delight out of that.

Jon D, please watch over the rest of us.  Keep us safe, and out of harms way!!!
I LOVE YOU BRO!

Last year a group of us were talking about the importance of welcome homes and John said that if anything ever happend to him and there was a welcome home the same day as his funeral, he wants everyone to go to the welcome home.  That sums up the kind of man he was. Even in death he honors those that wear the uniform, the same uniform that he once proudly wore.

We can all take comfort in two things.

1. Jon escorted many KIA in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana over the last few years and they will be waiting for him with a flagline and salute to thank him for bringing them home.
2.When it's our turn to leave this world, Jon will be in charge of our welcome homes and if you thought he did a good job here on Earth imagine what your welcome home will be like on the other side.

I cannot think of Jon and be sad.  He brought so much joy to so many people.  His goal was to make sure that every family that wanted a welcome home for their son or daughter would get one. It didn't matter if there was one bike or 200 bikes, the smile on the face of a soldier was always just as big and that's all that matters.

Stand down Jon, your mission is complete. Rest easy you earned it.
