Warriors Walk, Fort Stewart, Georgia

As this "Virtual Warriors Walk" memorial forum is named for the "Wariors Walk," I though it appropriate to talk a little about the physical-Warriors Walk.

Warriors Walk is at Fort Stewart, Georgia, home of my beloved 3RD Infantry Divsion. It's a memorial field, dedicated to the fallen of the 3rd Infantry Division who served in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. The first monthly ceremony was held in April of 2003, and as of this past May, 418 3RD ID heroes are memorialized there.

For each soldier who falls, a tree is planted along the walk. The tree chosen is the Eastern Redbud Tree, because these trees bloom each April in Georgia, which is about the same time that the first casualties were reported from the Division’s theater of operations.

See the history and photos by clicking here.

Thanks, Wayne.

It's always nice to hear the 'history/meaning' behind a thread being created.

Godspeed to all 418 soldiers memorialized there... and bless their families.

I wish that was our final number.

Please God...Grant them courage, when times seem bleak.  Grant them strength when they feel weak.  Grant them comfort, when they feel all alone.  And most of all, God, Please bring them ALL home.

Thanks for sharing that bit of history with the rest of us. I and my wife are discussing going to see the walk.

It's not what they can do for us, it's what can we do for them. They have already paid the tab for all of America, now we have to repay the bill with honor and respect.

I have been there two times, once when the red buds were blooming....It is an amazing tribute to those soldiers lost....Family and friends leave things that represent their loved ones...All the trees have a strand of tiny silver bells on a branch...Not sure who place them there because every tree seems to have them...I think they were placed there because of the saying"every time a bell rings an Angel get's his wings" not sure, but I like that reason...As with Lutz the 3rd ID is real special to us down here in GA....

I'm sorry for having to come back again on this subject.  But !!

As I look at the number of views that are made on this site, I'm
somewhat disappointed in the the number of posts.

If your reading this, just take 60 seconds and post a comment.  This post can be shared with the family of our Hero.  And to think we  have up to 250+ views and only 20 or so posts.  This is something we can change.

Please after viewing, do a post.
